Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Karavalamba Stotram
A plea for the Lord's hand to lift the soul out of the suffering of worldly existence (samsara).
Karavalamba means "the support of the hand". In verse after verse the devotee describes samsara as a terrifying place: a dark forest, a bottomless well, a stormy ocean, a forest fire, a hunter's net. Each time they reach out for the Lord's hand.
Verses 1 to 11 end with the refrain "Lakshmi Nrsimha mama dehi karavalambam": O Lakshmi Narasimha, give me the support of Your hand.
Tradition holds that Shankara sang it when Narasimha saved him from a Kapalika who sought to sacrifice him. Another account says it healed his burnt hands. Both are told as tradition.
