Sthala purana
After His fury subsided, the Lord wandered these forested hills and married Chenchu Lakshmi, a maiden of the Chenchu tribe. He then remained here as a great rock, the penu sila, which gave the shrine its name.
The temple sits in a green valley of the Eastern Ghats, beside a stream that devotees bathe in.
