Sthala purana
Sage Yada, son of Rishyasringa, did intense penance on this hill. Pleased, Narasimha appeared to him in five forms (Jwala, Gandabherunda, Yogananda, Ugra and Lakshmi Narasimha), and the hill took the sage's name. The account is told in the Skanda Purana.
The deities are worshipped in a cave shrine inside the hill. The temple was completely rebuilt in black granite and reopened in 2022, with towering gopurams and carved mandapams.
